Tasting Note Robert Parker 91-93/100 (2008 Vintage) This outstanding effort is atypically forward, sexy, and opulent. Only 45% of the crop made it into this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Yields were 47 hectoliters per hectare, which is slightly higher than some estates, but the harvest was very late, between October 2-21. Sweet cassis, black cherry, licorice, tobacco leaf, and spice box are all present in the complex aromatics. In the mouth, the wine offers generosity, roundness, sweetness, and velvety, ripe tannins. I was surprised by how forward, precocious, and delicious this wine has already become. It appears set for a relatively long life of 25+ years. Wine Enthusiast 93/100 (2008 Vintage) Big, rich, almost velvet in texture, this is a powerful wine. It has spice, black berry fruits, layers of wood and black plum skins. Powerful wine for long-term aging and medium-term accessibility. Wine Advocate Neal Martin 92/100 (2008 Vintage) The Rauzan Segla 2008 has good fruit concentration on the nose with broody black fruits, boysenberry and dark plum, cedar and sous-bois developing more with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, rather dry tannins, a Margaux that has gone into its shell. Very structured and foursquare towards the graphite-struck finish. Biding its time most certainly, but I feel it could turn a corner at some point its evolution and surprise a few people. Drink 2013-2030. Tasted October 2010. Wine Spectator 90/100 (2008 Vintage) A touch soft, but persistent, with pretty floral, mulled plum and tobacco notes that glide over light, rounded tannins. The pure finish lets the fruit hang elegantly. This wins on balance rather than depth. Drink now through 2014. Jancis Robinson 16.5/20 (2008 Vintage) - When to drink: 2017 to 2027 Sweet and toasty on the nose. A bit light. But nicely balanced. An easy early-maturing wine. Jancis Robinson Tasted: 01-May-2012 Jeannie Cho Lee 89/100 (2008 Vintage) The fresh cassis and cedar are wonderfully vibrant, lively and juicy, supporting the lightness and elegance of this fragrant and aromatic wine. Will be ready to enjoy soon but can keep five to eight years. Tasted in: Bordeaux, France. Maturity: Young.
